New investors are expected in Poprad

For the third time, Poprad was awarded Cra rating Baa-/skAa-skP-1 by Cra Rating Agency on August 20, 2004. In practise, it also means the possibility to lower the rate of interests. Since the new mayor - Anton Danko – took his office, no credit has been needed and the budget of the town is still in balance. The debt inherited from the previous municipal government is being succesfully reduced without the use of any loans.

The conditions for accession of the investors are prepared
Poprad started the development of a new industrial park in 2004 with the investment of 157 million Slovak crowns within the area of about 10 ha. The locality is only a few kilometres from the High Tatras and is not situated in a protected area. In case that an investor will be interested in undertaking a larger area, it is possible to extend it. The park will be focused on light engineering production and since existence of several schools with identical specialization, there will be a potential for a qualified work force as well. The realization of the industrial park is planned in this year, 2005. The municipality together with the town deputies have decided to sign the contract with a developer’s company responsible for the agenda and operation of the park. The negotiations with the companies, which are interested in undertaking the area, are currently in progress. The construction of the park will be realized in the first half of 2005. It is necessary to emphasize that the town itself will not build the halls, but it will prepare the required conditions for investors. The town will build the complete infrastructure within the area – water, sewage, gas, electricity and will buy up the land from the current owners, which means that the area will be fully prepared for investors. In the next phase, the investors themselves will decide what kind of production halls they need.

Preconditions for initiation and realisation of the highway
The town will be directly connected to the highway Mengusovce-Jánovce, with a one-kilometre-long tunnel. The town of Poprad also creates preconditions for the beginning and realization of the highway construction. These days, the future route is being staked out in the terrain. The entire route Mengusovce-Jánovce is divided into three sections. The planning permitions have already been issued for two sections and the permition for the third section is expected in the coming days. The building site should be given over by the end of April and the beginning of the construction is assumed in May 2005. The Mayor of Poprad, Anton Danko, has been very intensively involved in solving the traffic problems of the town. After more than twenty years, the problem of the town’s round-about was solved and the town has increased the traffic safety by the installation of further technical solutions. There are also two state investments – a bypass of a municipal part Matejovce together with the finishing of a sewage water disposal plant having a direct connection with the develoment of further housing in the town. The SAD Company and the Railway Company a.s. have been preparing the renovation of the platforms for the buses and trains as well. It will have a positive impact on the town itself.

The town of Poprad also creates the conditions for the individual housing construction and these days, the building activities on several polyfunctional houses are being finishing. Moreover, the construction of several new supermarkets is being prepared.
